Is anyone planning on going to the PSB meeting and interested in
participaing in this panel? Unfortunatley I have a grant due 1/14 and
wasn't planning on going to this, but I think this would be a nice
opportunity for someone to represent the plant groups...

Subject: an invitation to participate in a PSB panel
Dear Dr. Rhee,
I am extending an invitation on behalf of my myself and my two colleagues
(Alexa McCray and Olivier Bodenreider, both from the National Library of
Medicine) to participate in a panel discussion at the Pacific Symposium on
Biocomputing. We are the organizers of the session on Biomedical
Ontologies. The session has two parts: contributed papers and a panel
discussion. The panel is called, "Biomedical Ontologies: Burning Needs
and Flame-Retardant Infrastructure".
We would like you to discuss some of the "burning needs" with regard to
ontologies of the plant genomics community and any infrastructure being
developed. We are aware of your work from the SOFG conference and the
leadership role you play in the TAIR resource. Several of my
bioinformatics colleagues at the University of Missouri speak highly of
you and your work. This would not be a long talk (5-10 minutes maximum,
depending on the number of other participants) because we would like the
panelists to outline the burning needs and/or the work at flame-retardant
infrastructure and then have a lengthy discussion among the audience and
the panelists. Last year we had a very lively discussion with the
audience, considered by some among the high points of the conference, and
we hope to continue that tradition.
I have included a link to the PSB meeting so you can get details of place,
time, cost, etc. Unfortunately, our invitation does not include paying
your expenses or an honorarium. Hopefully you have already been planning
to attend. Please let us know of your thoughts on this invitation and
whether you might be able to participate on the panel.
