This is a forwarded message meant for the Gramene and its user community. For
your information on, why some of the species, rice community deals with are not mentioned in the
NCBI taxonomy, please follow the explanation from Rana Morris (NCBI).
In order to over come the problem, I am trying to have them listed in the
environment ontology by their taxa.
Pankaj

Dear Colleague,
We have received your message here at the National Center for Biotechnology
Information. The NCBI Taxonomy database only contains the names for the
organisms whose sequences have been made public by the collaborating sequence
database EMBL, DDBJ, and NCBI/GenBank or by one of the other public databases
that are indexed in Entrez (including the Swiss-Prot, PIR and PRF protein
sequence databases and the PDB structure database). Currently sequence data are
available for only about 100,000 of the about 2-10 million species supposed to
exist on earth. The organisms that you have listed are not among them.
I was, however, able to find several references to each by searching with
google. Perhaps you could try there or use your favorite search engine to find
the information that you are seeking?
Regards,
Rana C. Morris
