subspecies, cultivar, strain

In relation to proteins,
I would like to say that under species, there is only one level,
which may be called subspecies, cultivar or strain.
Is this correct?
In the existing gramene database there is only one Protein
that has a subspecies, GR:000032
subspecies Fujihikari, cultivar japonica.
But japonica is mentioned in many proteins with no subspecies,
so I assume the subspecies is unnecessary here.
Doreen suggested that there might be sub-cultivars.
Is this so?
