[Gmod-help] gmod help

Hi. I've watch various howto tutorials on driving vehicles. I follow the
tuts to the letter but I run into a somewhat remedial problem, my "use" key
does nothing. My "use" key is set to the default "e" button but whenever I
hit it when near a vehicle nothing happens. Any suggestions or solutions?
I'm going to catch on fire from noob rage.
