[Gmod-help] Server hosting issues

I'm trying to host a private server for playing with my friends, but every
time I try to do this the game crashes to the main menu.  It works when I
use a vanilla version, then worked again when I put my addons back in.  It
just seems to be very fickle when I try to host and the solution evades me
at every turn.  Any suggestions?
