Dear Ishen,
I am posting my response to your inquiry to the GMOD Schema list.
People on that list may have more to add. If you have specific
questions about using Chado on Windows then that is a good place to
post them. I recommend you subscribe to that list.
The short answer to your question is that we discourage people from
using Chado on Windows platforms. Many parts of GMOD have a
Linux/Unix assumption and require work to adapt it to Windows.
However, I believe there are sites that run Chado on Windows, and your
use of Postgres will greatly reduce the number of problems you
encounter.
Another thing worth noting is that the 1.0 release of Chado is
imminent. I would wait until it is released before starting your
Chado installation (or I would restart it when 1.0 comes out).
My recommendations:
1. Subscribe to gmod-schema:
https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gmod-schema
2. Get the 1.0 release when it come out, and start installation
3. When you hit problems, search the gmod-schema list to see if anyone
else has hit the same problem. If not post your questions.
In the long term, the help desk has plans to provide more useful
information about GMOD on Windows, but this probably won't happen in
the next few months.
Regards,
Dave C
