Hi Christos,

Sorry I've been so slow to answer--I've been at a conference for the
past week and it has been quite draining.

The short answer about MySQL is that we don't support it. The Chado
schema is designed to run in PostgreSQL, though a few users use Oracle,
Sybase and DB2. There is one person who uses a subset of the Chado
schema with MySQL, but none of the code I've written works with it. I
don't suggest MySQL for any data that is really important; take a look
at

  http://sql-info.de/mysql/gotchas.html

A step by step guide is a good idea, and we are working on just that
sort of thing. In the mean time, please see

  http://www.gmod.org/wiki/index.php/Chado_-_Getting_Started#Chado_From_CVS

which will then point to the install document at

  http://gmod.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/gmod/schema/chado/INSTALL.Chado
