Pankaj -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [Obo-phenotype] Phenotype representation workshop Date: Tue, 7 Nov 2006 10:11:15 -0500 From: Suzanna Lewis To: obo-phenotype at lists.sourceforge.net, obi-devel at lists.sourceforge.net, obo-discuss at lists.sourceforge, biocurator at acoma.stanford.edu, cbIO-council at mailman.stanford.edu, larkinj2 at nhlbi.nih.gov Dear colleagues, We are drawing close to the dates (December 1st & 2nd) for the Phenotype Representation Workshop, and we're encouraging everyone to attend. We're hoping to have a representative from as many groups as possible who are either actively capturing phenotypic data, or are on the verge of doing so. This workshop is designed as a forum, to further unify this community, including current and prospective contributors to the PaTO (nee Phenotype and Trait Ontology), curators of phenotypic data, and bioinformaticians. Our hope is that by working together from the beginning-sharing relevant ontologies, methodologies, tools, and representations-then farther down the road we will be able to exchange, integrate, and meaningfully compare this valuable data. During the workshop we will review the requirements of each group, examine the PaTO's current use, critique its limitations, and plan for its future development and integration with other pertinent ontologies and tools. Our mutual success relies upon having individual points-of-view and contribututions in this area well-represented. More detailed information is available on the wiki site, including a tentative agenda, at: http://www.bioontology.org/wiki/index.php/PATO_Meeting A registration form (minimal, to help us with planning) is available at: http://www.fruitfly.org/pato/pato-form.html Please contact myself Suzanna Lewis (suzi at berkeleybop.org ), Nicole Washington (NLWashington at lbl.gov ), or Barry Smith (phismith at buffalo.edu ) with any additional questions. Hope to see you there! -S -- Pankaj Jaiswal G-15, Bradfield Hall Dept. of Plant Breeding and Genetics Cornell University Ithaca, NY-14853, USA Ph. +1-607-255-3103 / 4199 fax: +1-607-255-6683
