Good morning, cereal researchers.
I am writing to request input from Gramene users. In trying to develop some
user exercises, I am interested in learning the queries in your head when
you approach the database. If you would take a few minutes to respond to
this it would be very helpful in developing exercises, and perhaps user
interfaces, for Gramene. Below are a few examples of what I am looking for.
It is possible that your question may not be able to be answered by
Gramene, but this is also helpful for Gramene developers to consider as
they work on the database and features in the future.
You may reply to this email - which will reply to the Gramene list-serve,
or contact me privately at cer17 at cornell.edu if you'd prefer.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Claire Hebbard

Example Queries:
1 - What candidate genes associated with my trait category (ie. disease
resistance) are found in the region on chromosome 'x' defined by a QTL for
a specific trait (ie. sheath blight).
2 - I need QTL and associated marker information (primers, annealing temp)
for my trait of interest.
3 - What markers should I use to select for the positive allele associated
with a known QTL detected in the population known as [Milling Yield 1]
[Sheath Blight 1]?
4 - Are there any QTLs/mutants/genes associated with trait "a" in maize
that fall in a region of the maize map that is known to be homeologous to
interval "b" in rice?
