Working title: Bioinformatics Specialist
University Title: Research Associate/Postdoctoral Associate


Job Description

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Susan
McCouch and with a team of software engineers and biologists to develop and
maintain Gramene, a comparative grass genome database (www.gramene.org).

Responsibilities will include one or more of the following activities:
Collect, assemble and curate emerging data for gene expression 
profiling (microarray) and proteome analysis from rice and other 
grasses;
Collect, assemble and curate information on rice phenotypes, genes 
and alleles; Curate information on genetic, physical and 
sequence-based maps;
Help develop controlled vocabularies (ontologies) that are essential 
for cross-species comparisons;
Help develop a database module on genetic diversity of populations.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in genetics or genomics or closely related field. Three or four years of
experience in one or more of the following areas: comparative genome 
annotation,
gene expression profiling, proteome analysis, phenotypic and QTL evaluation,
plant development, physiology or systematics. Experience with datamining of
biological databases and management of large, heterogeneous datasets.
Familiarity with model organism databases (Arabidopsis, rice, yeast, fly,
mouse). Creativity and motivation as a scientist, ability to work in a team.
