WebGBrowse is a web interface for configuring GBrowse. It is an easy way to enable biologists to upload their data files and configure GBrowse instances without having to go through the effort of setting up their own server. WebGBrowse includes a graphical user interface for configuring all GBrowse glyphs.

WebGBrowse is a good match for any organization that has users who want to create their own GBrowse instances; and it is also a good way to learn about GBrowse glyphs and how to configure them. WebGBrowse was developed by the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics at Indiana University. It was presented by Ram Podicheti at the January 2009 GMOD Meeting (see http://gmod.org/wiki/January_2009_GMOD_Meeting).

I believe that WebGBrowse meets all of GMOD's membership requirements (see http://gmod.org/wiki/GMOD_Membership#Requirements): The CGB is willing to support WebGBrowse for at least 2 years (and probably more). They are also willing to move the code to a public repository and to setup a public email list.

Since WebGBrowse is potentially useful to to any GBrowse user, we are sending this nomination out to the entire GBrowse list. If you have any feedback or comments on WebGBrowse becoming a part of GMOD, please respond on list or send mail directly to the help desk. Please send your thoughts by June 10, two weeks from now.
