Hi Nicole,

We don't have a definitive list of GMOD users (but keeping some track of them is on my todo list).

I'm attaching excerpts from the recent GMOD grant proposal that will give you some idea of what GMOD usage is and how demand is increasing.

Let me know if you have questions.

Dave C.

Since the launch of the wiki in 2007, there have been over 10,000
updates, approximately one third of them by the Help Desk.

From December 2008 through September 2009, gmod.org had an average of
18,196 unique monthly visitors, an increase of 8.9% relative to the
previous year. Over the last 12 months, there were 350,207 different
visits and 975,302 pages viewed.

Membership in the 7
current GMOD lists managed by GMOD project support personnel is up
across all lists. In the past 20 months total membership in these lists
is up from 772 addresses to 1077, a 40% increase. Membership in the
JBrowse and GBrowse lists has increased 98% and 60%, respectively.
Traffic is also up significantly on these lists. In the 12 month
period ending in September 2009, there were 3099 messages on these
lists, up from 1829 messages in the previous 12 months, a 69% increase
in message volume, largely (96%) on the GBrowse and JBrowse lists.
These statistics do not include additional well-trafficked lists
maintained outside of the GMOD SourceForge project (Apollo, BioMart,
Ergatis, Galaxy, InterMine, MAKER, Pathway Tools, and Sybil) for which
statistics are not readily available.

Attendance at summer schools and project meetings has also been on the
rise. In 2008, there were 29 applications for the single GMOD Summer
School. In 2009 there were 110 applications for 2 summer schools, an
increase of 279%. Attendance at the 2 most recent GMOD meetings (August
and January 2009) has been, on average, 48% higher than at the previous
two meetings (July 2008 and November 2007). A total of 102 attendees
were at the two 2009 meetings, while there were 69 attendees at the
previous two meetings.

On Wed, Jan 6, 2010 at 12:20 PM, Nicole Washington <NLWashington@lbl.gov> wrote:

Hi Dave,

Do you have any idea how many groups might use gmod tools for support of a MOD? This might be a nice number for me to include in my grant.

Thanks!
