Hello Todd, Scott, and Steve (our host in Oxford),
The week in Oxford is split between a course and a GMOD meeting. From our
earlier e-mail exchange I think we should settle on July 16-19 at NESCent,
just to safely avoid conflict (or synthesis?) with the meta-people.
I updated the Google Docs you sent me with some text. I've copied it to
this e-mail so Scott and Steve can see it. Please feel free to update at
will. *The only thing that can't be changed is the URL:
http://gmod.org/wiki/August_2009_GMOD_Meeting.*
Here it is:

*2A2. GMOD courses and Meetings (Dave Clements)*
GMOD North American Summer School: at NESCent, 16-19 July 2009
GMOD Europe 2009:
GMOD European Summer School and GMOD Community Meeting
3-7 August 2009 in Oxford, UK
Both GMOD Summer Schools are aimed at teaching new GMOD users how to get up
and running with popular GMOD Components such as GBrowse, Chado. Apollo,
BioMart and others. The courses will focus on installation, configuration,
and integration, and requires some level of comfort with Linux systems
administration (although no programming). The North American course will be
held at NESCent, July 16-19, 2009.
GMOD Europe 2009 is a weeklong event starting with a 3-day GMOD Summer
School and finishing with a 2 day GMOD Community Meeting. GMOD Europe 2009
is being hosted by the Computational Biology Research Group at Oxford
University, August 3-7, 2009. These events are being held in Europe, for
the first time ever, due to increased interest in and use of GMOD in Europe.
Keep your eyes on the GMOD web site for details:

I'll create the URLs that make it into the newsletter before the Newsletter
goes out, although they may just be placeholders (with snappy logos of
course) for a few days.
I will try to check my e-mail Monday morning.
Parenthood of two is going well so far. We got to know Neci last weekend
and her foster parents delivered her on Tuesday. She hasn't been fearful or
panicked yet, and walks and talks reasonably well, despite a very tough
start in life. She also sleeps better than our almost 7 year old daughter,
Naomi. Naomi, by the way, has been spectacular with Neci and only minimally
more trouble than usual otherwise (which is still not much trouble)
Unfortunately, Neci also came with a cold, which she has generously shared
with the rest of us, so we are all now bonding through mutual illness. I've
attached two photos, because, well, I just can't help it.
I'll be back to work on Thursday, amazingly early, but darn cheery
nonetheless.
Thanks,
Dave C.
PS: Foster parents are my heroes. Neci's were amazing.
