Hi,
I have used Gramene a fair amount over the last 10 years, usually when I want to look at regions of the rice genome that I find via a BLAST search with a gene or some other sequence of interest.
I don't remember when it happened, but the most recent version of the Gramene database (maybe within the last 2 years), is honestly not an improvement in my opinion. The current version is slower, more glitchy and simply makes it harder, (not easier) to do what I want to do.
This isn't a problem of me not knowing how to do what I want, I can still do it, but it takes many more clicks and the load time of the pages in the browser is significantly slower (and sometimes it simply glitches out so you need to start over).
I really like Gramene (say 5 or more years ago) -- it was the best database for the examining the rice genome, but lately, I have been looking for alternatives -- because every time I try using Gramene I get frustrated. I am not a bioinformatics/computer person, just a molecular biologist, but please either go back to the previous platform, or alternatively, make the new platform easier to do BLAST searches and genome browsing and fix the glitches so a user can click through the various views without problems.
Thanks,
